IAEA reports eight drones spotted near South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that eight drones were detected within about 2.5 miles of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant overnight on April 9.

The IAEA also noted that one reactor remains offline for restart at both the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants.

On April 5, two reactors at the Rivne plant were forced to temporarily reduce output due to grid restrictions, underscoring the ongoing challenges facing Ukraine’s battered energy infrastructure.

A staff rotation also took place last week at the Khmelnytskyi plant.

At the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, IAEA teams continue regular patrols to monitor nuclear safety, including inspections of its dry spent fuel storage facility.

Meanwhile, on April 9, air raid sirens sounded in several regions of Ukraine amid a Russian drone attack.

Explosions were heard in Kyiv, and debris from a downed drone sparked a fire at a non-residential building in the city’s Holosiivskyi district, according to early reports.
