“Here are photos of Ukrainian aliens’ first moments back home following their removal from the United States,” the caption said.
ICE did not identify the individuals or specify the reasons
for their removal from U.S. soil.
On June 17, RFE/RL reported that the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington had received no information about the deportations of Ukrainian nationals since the start of the year. As of late May, the embassy said, 24 Ukrainians were being held in ICE detention centers pending deportation.
Embassy officials told RFE/RL that the process has been delayed by logistical challenges, including a lack of international flights to Ukraine. They said the embassy is in regular contact with the U.S. State Department and ICE “in monitoring the start and modalities of the deportation process of Ukrainian citizens who violated U.S. immigration law.” They added, “Migration policy is solely the prerogative of each sovereign state, including the United States.”
