At least 12 people were killed when a Russian IL-76 military transport plane crashed in Russia’s Ivanovo Oblast on March 12, according to preliminary reports cited by Russian Telegram channel 112.

The aircraft had eight crew members and seven passengers on board, according to Russian propaganda outlet RIA Novosti.

Five bodies were found at the crash site, the Telegram channel Shot reported. The other 10 individuals on board are also presumed dead.

The aircraft crashed during its landing approach, according to Russian Telegram channels.

Preliminary data suggests it fell near a cemetery in the Bogorodskoye village area, close to an airfield. The IL-76 was on a training flight, having taken off from Severny airport and was in the air for several minutes.

The engine apparently caught fire during a turn.
