A Ukrainian Storm Shadow missile strike on Russia’s Orel severely damaged at least one production hall at the Proton plant, which manufactures components for Iskander ballistic missiles, OSINT (open-source intelligence) project Exilenova+ reported on Oct. 23.

Images released by the project show extensive damage to one of the plant’s key production and assembly buildings. The upper floors, roof and facade collapsed after the strike, making it impossible for the shop’s production lines to resume operations, Exilenova+ said.

Exilenova+ also released phone footage showing Storm Shadow cruise missiles approaching the plant.

According to Defense Express, the same address as JSC Proton was also home to CJSC Proton-Impuls and JSC Proton-Elektrotex. All three companies were involved in Russia’s military-industrial complex and played an important role in supplying microelectronics and other components for the country’s defense industry.

Analysts said components made by the companies were used in the production of T-90 and T-14 Armata tanks, Pantsir-S1 air defense systems, Iskander-M ballistic missiles, and S-71 Kover cruise missiles, as well as other weapons and military equipment.
