During her visit, Georgieva is expected to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, and National Bank of Ukraine Governor Andriy Pyshnyy.
The possibility of this visit was first discussed in October 2023. Georgieva last visited Kyiv in February 2023.
In November, Ukraine and the IMF reached a staff-level agreement on a new four-year Extended Fund Facility program worth approximately $8.1 billion.
The program is expected to help mobilize large-scale external financial support to cover Ukraine’s funding needs. Under the baseline scenario, Ukraine’s total financing gap from 2026 to 2029 is estimated at approximately $136.5 billion. From 2026 to 2027 alone, the country will face a residual financing gap of about $63 billion, even after accounting for existing financial commitments.
