Russian forces near center of Vuhledar as fierce battles continue, says governor

"In Vuhledar, 107 people remain," Filashkin said.

“Fortunately, all children have been evacuated. The battles are taking place within the city, making it almost impossible to deliver humanitarian aid.”

The situation is dire, and people are struggling to survive, added the official.

Russian forces entered Vuhledar from the west and south, analysts from the DeepState monitoring project reported on Sept. 30.

Situation in Vuhledar

DeepState reported on Sept. 24 that the situation around Vuhledar was critical and continuing to deteriorate as the Russian army was attempting to encircle the city while simultaneously destroying it with artillery and KAB guided aerial bombs.

Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, reported that Vuhledar was previously advantageous for defense due to its elevated position. However, the enemy managed to destroy it and advance on the flank using KABs.

Analysts from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War reported on Sept. 26 that Russian invasion forces had advanced in Vuhledar and likely captured the eastern part of the settlement.

Soldiers of the 72nd Black Zaporozhians Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated on Sept. 26 that they continue to hold the defense in Vuhledar, refuting information about the withdrawal of Defense Forces from the city.

Defense Express Director Serhiy Zgurets, in an interview with Radio NV on Sept. 28 stated that five Russian brigades—a marine brigade, an assault brigade, two motorized rifle brigades, and a tank brigade—are advancing on Vuhledar, while only the 72nd Brigade is defending the city.
