“Iranian entities must be prepared to escalate tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and wider region, as Iran will be ready to make decisions and take action on difficult decisions,” the news agency quoted an unnamed senior Iranian official.
Tehran also threatened "timely and precise" military actions to break the U.S. naval blockade “if diplomacy failed.”
According to the memorandum of understanding U.S. President Donald Trump signed in Versailles in June, Iran and the United States were supposed to reach a final peace accord by Aug. 17. The memorandum fell apart amid a dispute over control of the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran is also negotiating separately with Oman over
management of the strait; Iranian officials say the two sides are close to a
deal. “If Oman gets in the way, we'll bomb the shit out of them,” Trump told
Fox News earlier the same day.
