The Japanese government has allocated $58 million to be spent on reconstruction projects in Ukraine, Ukrainian PM Denys Shmyhal announced on Feb. 11.

In a Telegram post, Shmyhal stated that the corresponding agreement has been struck.

“Today, we approved the agreement between our governments,” said the PM.

“These funds, from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will finance reconstruction projects [in Ukraine].”

He also expressed gratitude to the people of Japan for their support.

"We consistently work with allies worldwide to secure additional resources for reconstruction," he added.

On Dec. 25, 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Japan will provide Ukraine with an additional $3 billion, sourced from frozen Russian assets. Previously, Ukraine received $1 billion from Japan and the United Kingdom as part of a World Bank project.
