They raised concerns that Biden's race could make it much easier for Republicans to gain control of both houses.
According to The Washington Post, a person close to Biden told the president directly that he should end his candidacy, saying that was the only way to preserve his legacy and save the country from another Trump term. However, Biden strongly disagreed, believing himself to be the best candidate to defeat Trump.
Democratic Party leaders released a short statement after the meeting acknowledging the meetings but not revealing their content. The Biden campaign and the White House did not provide a public summary of the meetings.
"The President told both leaders he is the nominee of the party, he plans to win, and looks forward to working with both of them to pass his 100 days agenda to help working families," White House spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement.
This follows a same-day report by CNN that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had told Biden that polls show he would not be able to defeat Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
Possible Joe Biden's drop out of November elections
After unsuccessful TV debates with Trump, 81-year-old Biden may be replaced by US Vice President Kamala Harris in the Nov. 5 election, the Reuters agency reported on July 3, citing sources. Top Democratic donors believe it could also be Michigan or California governors.
Biden is not going to withdraw from the election and will do it "only if the Lord Almighty comes down from heaven and orders him", and stands his ground despite the calls of sponsors and Congressmen.
US President Joe Biden will most likely lose the election in November, Democratic Senator Michael Bennett said for the first time on July 9.
Biden expressed confidence that he will not lose to Donald Trump in an interview with NBC News on July 16.
"I'm old, but I'm only three years older than Trump, that's the first thing," Biden said.
"Secondly, my mental acuity is pretty damn good. In 3.5 years, I have done more than any president for a long, long time. That's why I'm ready to be tried for it."
