Ukraine urgently needs to strengthen its air defense systems following Russia’s massive overnight assault, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in a post on X on July 9.

Rather than pursuing peace, Russia launched nearly 750 drones and missiles against Ukraine in a single night, which is a record number, the diplomat added.

“This growing terror underscores the urgent need to bolster our air defense, including investments in interceptor drones, increase pressure on Russia, and cut its oil revenues,” he wrote.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russian forces launched a record 741 targets overnight, including 728 drones, seven Kh-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles, and six Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles. Air defenses neutralized 711 drones and shot down all seven Kh-101/Iskander-K missiles.

The city of Lutsk was reportedly the main target of the strike.
