Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov on May 7, following Kadyrov’s request to resign and amid reports of his worsening health, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Interfax.

Kadyrov will join expanded international meetings with foreign delegations arriving in Moscow for the May 9 Victory Day parade.

On May 6, Kadyrov announced he asked Putin to relieve him of his duties, a request he previously made in 2016, 2017, and 2022 without success.

Novaya Gazeta Europe previously reported that Kadyrov is preparing a power transition in Chechnya, naming his 17-year-old son Adam as his successor.

The outlet also reported in 2024 that Kadyrov has suffered from pancreatic necrosis, with an 80% mortality rate, for over five years, with his condition deteriorating despite increased media activity to mask it. In recent months, he has increasingly disappeared from public space for prolonged periods of time.
