Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is the primary obstacle to achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, said on Fox News on May 6.
Kyiv consented to a comprehensive 30-day ceasefire, but Putin has rejected the proposal, Kellogg stated.
“I think right now our obstacle to progress [in peace talks] is the Russian president, who won’t agree [to a ceasefire],” he said.
He emphasized that Trump is the only leader capable of brokering peace in Ukraine, provided Putin agrees.
Kellogg added that the parties are “close” to a potential truce and that Ukraine is currently in a “good position”.
Previously, the American envoy mentioned Ukraine’s willingness to establish a 30-kilometer demilitarized zone along the front line.
