Kim claimed that relations between Belarus and North Korea
“have deep traditions and history.” He said the two countries hold similar
positions on “many issues” on the international agenda.
The North Korean dictator expressed “solidarity and full
support” for Belarus, which, he said, “seeks to pursue an independent policy
and achieve peace and development.”
Kim also said North Korea opposes “illegitimate pressure on
Belarus from the West.”
He also falsely claimed that the Belarusian government and
people are “achieving significant success in defending their sovereign rights
and interests, as well as in security matters.”
Lukashenko arrived in North Korea on March 25 at Kim’s
invitation. It is his first visit to Pyongyang. He previously met with Kim in
September 2025 in China.
During a Jan. 17, 2025, meeting on foreign trade plans,
Lukashenko said he had “four or five invitations from Eastern countries with
proposals to meet at the highest level and discuss cooperation.” He
specifically mentioned Pakistan, Indonesia, North Korea and others.
Kim’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, who also serves as deputy
director of a department of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of
Korea, denied that claim by the Belarusian dictator.
