Kormotech, Ukraine’s top pet food manufacturer, is weighing options to boost its production capacity either in Ukraine or by setting up facilities in Romania, Chief Operating Officer Ihor Paranyak said in an interview with news agency Interfax-Ukraine on April 1.

“In Ukraine, we have two factories: one for wet pet food with a capacity of 27,000 tons per year and one for dry pet food with a capacity of 55,000 tons per year,” Paranyak said.

“In 2023, we upgraded and expanded our wet food factory in Ukraine. Now, we’re working on expanding the dry food factory and considering two options—expansion in Ukraine or turning our attention to Romania.”

Paranyak noted that Poland, Romania, and nearby countries are key markets for Kormotech’s products, making Romania a potential site for overseas production.

The company has also started building a new wet pet food plant in Lithuania.

“The Lithuania project includes four phases of expansion, with a total capacity of 40,000 tons,” Paranyak said.

“We plan to launch the first phase in the second quarter of 2026, the second by the end of 2026, and the third and fourth depending on demand growth, aiming to complete all phases by 2028. This will bring the total capacity of our two Lithuania sites to 60,000 tons.”

Kormotech’s growth strategy emphasizes green energy.

“Our strategy includes steps toward using renewable energy,” Paranyak said.

“At our first Lithuania factory, we’ve installed a 630-kilowatt solar power plant. At the new factory, we also plan to add rooftop solar panels; with its nearly 17,000 square meters, it’ll be a large solar setup. By 2027, we aim to have 15% of our own electricity.”

In February, Kormotech began construction on its second factory in Lithuania.

The project carries a 60 million euro ($65 million) price tag, with 40 million euros ($43 million) funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Founded in 2003, Kormotech produces cat and dog food under brands like Optimeal, Club 4 Paws, Hav!, Miau!, and Delickcious, offering over 650 products. Its facilities include a plant in Lithuania and dry and wet food factories in Lviv city and oblast of Ukraine.

The company is ultimately owned by Olena and Rostyslav Vovk.
