Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed Russian dictator Vladimir Putin “condemns all forms of violence” and “attempts to kill” national leaders, Russian propaganda agency TASS reported on April 28.

Peskov was commenting on the assassination attempt on U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump and first lady Melania Trump were evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington on April 25 after an armed man tried to breach security and gunfire broke out. About 2,600 people were at the event.

Law enforcement identified the shooter as Cole Thomas Allen, 31. He lived in Torrance, California, and worked as a teacher. Allen had previously taken part in the anti-Trump No Kings protest in California.

On April 26, Allen was charged with attempting to murder Trump. He also faces two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm. Allen has pleaded not guilty. He will remain in custody while the case proceeds.
