Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba dismissed accusations that Ukraine supported Malian rebels in an attack on Wagner Group mercenaries, reportedly injuring several Malian soldiers, according to Bloomberg.

“Ukraine has never acted against the regular armies of other countries, except Russia. We are not interested in conflicts with African states. Our goal is to defend Ukraine from Russian aggression,” Kuleba emphasized on Aug. 8, speaking to reporters in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius.

He also noted that the Malian government’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine without providing concrete evidence was described as “hasty and unfounded.”

“The fact that the government of Niger followed Mali’s example suggests a coordinated attempt to isolate Ukraine,” Kuleba added.

Mauritian Foreign Minister Maneesh Gobin expressed hope for a “swift and peaceful resolution of the conflict,” stressing that his country’s stance is based on the principles of respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states, the inviolability of borders, and the prohibition of the use of force in accordance with the UN Charter.
