Ukraine is developing interceptor UAVs to take down Russian–Iranian Shahed drones targeting the country’s energy infrastructure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on June 11.

“We have some weapons currently in development,” Zelenskyy said at the Ukraine–Southeast Europe summit in Odesa.

“Some components are ready, and we are working to secure additional funds for mass production. These include various models of drone interceptors, among others.”

According to the president, Russia now launches more than 300 long-range strike drones per day, targeting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

He added that Ukraine already uses a layered air defense system to protect the major nodes of its energy infrastructure.

“I won’t say which systems are stationed where or which energy assets they protect,” said Zelenskyy.

“As soon as the Russians figure out the locations of our air defenses, they target them, so we are constantly changing the routes of our air defense systems.”

Earlier on June 11, Russian forces attacked a key energy facility in Kherson Oblast, disrupting electricity and water supply in Kherson City.
