Kyiv authorities have announced temporary traffic restrictions that are in effect during air raid alerts in the city, starting Oct. 2.

The South Bridge will remain closed after sustaining numerous hits from Russian drones in the past 48 hours. Metro trains are not operating on the Green Line’s remaining overground section. Service will resume after experts assess the condition of the bridge.

Petro Panteleiev, acting first deputy head of the Kyiv City Administration, made the statement during a briefing following a meeting of the Kyiv Defense Council.

“We are awaiting conclusions from specialized institutes before deciding when the metro can resume service; the metro is technically ready to operate,” Panteleiev said.

“Clearly, the Southern Bridge has been targeted in the attacks, so we cannot say yet how long it will remain closed. That will depend on the experts’ conclusions. Our task now is to ensure that people can travel as much as possible via other routes, bridges and crossings.”

The other three major bridges across the Dnipro River will only allow traffic from the right bank of the river during air raid alerts.

As of the evening of Oct. 2, Kyiv residents were still unable to travel normally from the left bank to the right bank of the Dnipro River, Suspilne public broadcaster reported.

“Residents report overcrowded public transportation, a lack of buses and trolleybuses, and long waits,” the outlet’s correspondent said.
