Hungary's presidency of the European Council, starting July 1, will not hinder formal negotiations on Ukraine's EU accession, as Kyiv has invested significantly in its relationship with Hungary, Ukraine’s Deputy PM Olha Stefanishyna said on June 25.

“I believe we have enough experience in balancing different dialogues among member states to achieve the necessary political decisions," public broadcaster Suspilne quotes Stefanishyna.

She noted that all EU members, including Hungary, have previously agreed to begin membership negotiations with Ukraine.

“We need to learn how to build our relationships, and we are significantly investing in our bilateral dialogue with Hungary,” Stefanishyna added.

The official also mentioned EU’s military and financial support for Ukraine, as well as efforts to expand sanctions against Russia.

“We are working on this entire spectrum and are absolutely confident that 26 EU member states support us on this issue,” she said.

Earlier on June 25, the official start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU was announced at the intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg.

Previously, Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán criticized the talks on Ukraine's EU membership but said he would not block the process, referring, nonetheless, to the negotiations as a "purely politically motivated process."
