Ukraine has deployed more forces to the southeastern front, which is a sign that Kyiv has identified potential weak points in Russia's defense, CNN reported on July 27, citing two unnamed U.S. officials.

According to one official, Ukraine still retains "some combat power in reserve" and has now deployed the "bulk" of the forces allocated for the counteroffensive.

During the counteroffensive, several elements of the Russian defense lines in the southeast were breached, said one source, and Kyiv’s reserves have arrived to take advantage of this opportunity.

Ukraine’s 47th Brigade, participating in the offensive, confirmed to CNN that it is advancing, stating: "Infantry is advancing, artillery is providing cover, Bradley crews are destroying enemy infantry and equipment."

The New York Times earlier reported that a new phase of Ukraine's counteroffensive has begun, with the main focus on the southeast, where the Ukrainian armed forces are gradually advancing through vast minefields.

According to the Financial Times, Ukraine has changed tactics after the "chaotic" start of the counteroffensive; now the armed forces are concentrating on striking Russian defensive positions using heavy artillery and are achieving “significant results.”

Since the start of the counteroffensive in early June, the Defense Forces have liberated over 192 square kilometers in southern Ukraine and approximately 35 square kilometers in the east.
