Bridge workers restored the structure and road surface,
reinforced the roadway’s foundation, covered it with a special metal plate, and
repaved it. According to the administration, repair crews also restored the
connections between sections of the bridge, which help ensure its strength and
stability.
Russian drones struck Kyiv’s Southern Bridge on Oct. 1 and
2, damaging the road surface, a support structure, a guardrail and protective
covering over a metro track. Traffic restrictions caused gridlock across the
city: Major roads came to a standstill, public transportation was delayed, and
people crossed bridges on foot.
Russia first attacked the Northern Bridge on Oct. 3.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the attack damaged the road surface
and the trolleybus overhead network, injured two people and led to restrictions
on bridge traffic. The following day, a drone struck the Northern Bridge again.
Photos published by Hromadske showed a large crater in the road surface.
