Naftogaz secures historic first U.S. LNG shipment through Lithuania

Partnering with the Lithuanian state energy giant Ignitis Group, Naftogaz secured a shipment of 90 million cubic meters of U.S.-sourced LNG. The fuel will arrive via the Baltic terminal, with Naftogaz managing the overland transit into Ukraine throughout February and March 2026.

"This is another step in diversifying gas supply routes for Ukraine," said the company CEO Serhii Koretskyi.

"We are consistently expanding cooperation with European partners to ensure reliable and flexible supplies amid the war and systematic Russian attacks on our energy infrastructure."

Lithuanian Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas highlighted the strategic importance of the Independence LNG terminal, noting its role in the newly initiated Amber Gas Corridor. Vilnius aims to turn this regional route into a stable, long-term option to bolster Kyiv’s energy security.

"We have found ways to use the existing infrastructure more efficiently to provide real support to the people of Ukraine as quickly as possible," Vaičiūnas added.

A multi-pronged strategy

This Baltic delivery is part of a broader campaign by Naftogaz to secure Ukraine from Russian energy blackmail. The company has rapidly expanded its footprint across European terminals this year:

In February, Naftogaz partnered with French TotalEnergies to import U.S. LNG through the Deutsche ReGas terminal on the island of Rügen.

Earlier this month, a partnership with the Polish state concern Orlen organized the first 2026 shipment of U.S. LNG into the Ukrainian gas system.
