Ukrainian intelligence carried out a cyberattack that temporarily paralyzed Russia’s national payment system SBP, used to fund so-called “volunteer organizations” supporting the war, according to NV sources within Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR).

The distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, which also affected the TransTeleCom provider, prevented thousands of Russians from making instant transfers and online payments.

Social media users in Yekaterinburg reported having difficulty paying for public transportation, fuel, and other services online.

The cyber operation also disrupted internet and interactive television services for hundreds of thousands of subscribers across multiple Russian regions.

NV sources estimate that the economic damage from the attack could reach $30 million.
