The ministry said Ukraine called on Polish authorities to take all necessary measures to prevent and resolve similar blockades. It stressed that transport links between the two countries are vital to Ukraine’s economy and serve as an important humanitarian lifeline amid Russian aggression.
Mishchenko emphasized that Poland’s domestic political processes—especially with presidential elections on the horizon—should not affect economic ties with Ukraine or damage bilateral relations. He urged Polish officials to quickly set up a dialogue between the government and the protesters to discuss their demands and address the issues behind the blockade.
To resolve the situation swiftly, Mishchenko proposed establishing direct contact between the relevant ministries in Ukraine and Poland. The ministry also said it was ready to assist at all levels.
On May 12, Ukraine’s Border Guard Service reported that Polish truckers launched a protest along the Dorohusk border crossing, which is directly opposite Ukraine’s Yahodyn checkpoint. The protest could last up to four months, according to its organizers.
Earlier in January, the Polish government designated border checkpoints as critical infrastructure to curb potential future attempts to blockade the Poland-Ukraine border.
