Most ATMs and self-service terminals are operating normally after a hacker attack on the telecommunications giant Kyivstar, according to information received from Ukrainian banks, as reported to NV Business by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

"Bank branches are operating seamlessly. Cashless transactions are being conducted as usual. There are also no issues with the operation of mobile banking applications, as they primarily use elements other than SMS notifications for login and transaction confirmation in multi-factor authentication," the regulator said.

The NBU noted that problems only arise when operating some POS (point-of-sale) terminals in the retail network that use Kyivstar's mobile communication.

"At present, banks are actively addressing this situation—reconfiguring non-operational POS terminals to work through other mobile operators or Wi-Fi," the National Bank reported.

The National Bank operates regularly, including all its information and payment systems.

"The National Bank's cybersecurity center and relevant financial institution units are taking all possible measures to respond to and counter potential cyberattacks. An operational information exchange system functions, sharing recommendations and experiences to ensure financial institutions' cybersecurity. Methods, tools, and recommendations to counter cyberattacks are being developed, ensuring appropriate coordination with other entities in the national cybersecurity system," the NBU added.
