Following Armenia, Krygyzstan stops servicing Russian Mir credit cards

Russian Mir credit cards will no longer work in another former Soviet
state after Kyrgyzstan banks stopped servicing the cards on April 3, Kyrgyzstan
Interbank Processing Center reported.
The move follows similar restrictions being implemented by financial institutions in Armenia and by a major bank in Tajikistan.
Kyrgyzstan refused to service Russian credit cards, citing the risk of facing secondary sanctions as the reason for its decision.
In Russian, Mir means “Russian peace” or “Russian world” and is often used to refer to Russia’s so-called “sphere of influence”.
Services such as card transactions through POS terminals, card-to-card transfers, and e-commerce have become unavailable for Mir cards as of April 4.
Full cessation of relations with the operator of Russian Mir cards is expected by April 5.
