‘Just like Bucha and Mariupol,’ Chernihiv mayor says of his city

Around 70% of Chernihiv has been destroyed as a result of shelling and attacks by Russian invaders, Chernihiv Mayor Vladyslav Atroshenko said on Ukrainian television on April 3.

“Our city resembles Bucha (recently liberated town outside Kyiv — ed.), and in some areas it is already just like Mariupol. People are wondering whether they will survive until tomorrow,” Atroshenko said.

“We have a concentration of Russian troops on the border with Belarus. We want to see how well our air defenses, whether bombs will continue to fall on our heads,” the mayor added.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian military is launching systemic missile and air strikes on critical infrastructure facilities and residential areas of settlements, in particular, in Chernihiv in the north, and Kharkiv in the east.
