Lithuanian political party proposes criminal responsibility for justifying Russian aggression

The proposed legislation suggests adding the word “Russian” to the Criminal Code, which makes public approval, denial, or gross belittlement of international crimes committed by the USSR or Nazi Germany punishable by a fine, a term of restricted liberty, arrest, or imprisonment for up to two years.

The purpose of the legislation is to “provide criminal liability and other criminal procedural measures related to its application for individuals who publicly support, deny, or grossly belittle the aggression committed by Russia against Ukraine, including the occupation of its territory (including Crimea).”

On May 2, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed a resolution recognizing Russia’s political regime as racist and condemning the ideological principles and social practices of the Russian regime.
