”I had a great meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy today in Washington. The UK is stepping up on defense spending and is ready to work with 🇺🇸 to end the war in Ukraine and keep the peace in Europe,” he wrote on X.
“POTUS and I agree this is a top priority and we're going to get it done.”
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to present an Anglo-French plan to deploy some 30,000 European peacekeepers to Ukraine to U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to Washington on Feb. 27.
London and Paris have coordinated their actions to influence Trump's plan to end the war and present a unified message during their visits to the White House this week, urging the U.S. to abandon bilateral peace talks with Russia and support European commitments to guarantee Ukraine's security in the future.
On February 26, Trump suggested for the first time that "some form of peacekeeping force" would be part of any agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
