Lukashenko sends cynical ‘peace’ greetings on Ukraine's Independence Day

“Many generations of Belarusians and Ukrainians have lived in harmony and respect for centuries, trading, starting families and raising children, courageously fighting fascism together, rebuilding the common state in the first post-war five-year plans” Lukashenko wrote in his greeting, the Pul Pervogo Telegram channel reported on Aug. 24.

Lukashenko said that Ukrainians and Belarusians “share common character traits such as being hardworking, diligence, respectful attitudes towards elders and traditions, and a distinctive culture” which unite them “to this day.”

"Having gained independence more than three decades ago, both countries have chosen independent paths of development and building a future for which we must create safe opportunities for the dignified coexistence of the entire region.” he said.

The Belarusian dictator emphasized that Ukraine and Belarus should "use" the "value" of neighborly relations "to end confrontation."

Lukashenko said Belarus was "ready to do everything necessary and even more" for this purpose.

Lukashenko extended his wishes to all Ukrainians, hoping that soon "priceless and much needed peace for all people of good will" will prevail in Ukraine.
