If the European Union allows Russia to win the war against Ukraine, trust in the bloc will be "reduced to zero", especially in Eastern Europe, French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with the TF1 channel.

"How can you trust the European Union, its members, if it is allowed to happen?” Macron asked.

“Do you think that Poles, Lithuanians, Estonians, Latvians, Romanians, Bulgarians could be left in peace for even a second? I'm not talking about Moldova, which is not a member of the European Union today, but which would be in just as much danger.”

France’s own security depends on the outcome of the war because the events in Ukraine affect its "vital interests", he added, expressing confidence that in case of victory, Russia will not stop in Ukraine, and there will be no more security in Europe.

"The security of France and the French and the whole European continent security are at stake," Macron said.

“Lasting peace after the war in Ukraine is possible only if Ukrainian sovereignty is fully restored over all occupied territories, including Crimea.”

The French president again did not rule out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine and said that "all these options are possible."

Macron reportedly told a closed circle on March 14 that he would send troops to Odesa.

Ukraine's Western allies will create a coalition to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with long-range weapons, Macron said after a conference in support of Ukraine held in Paris on Feb. 26, adding that Western troop deployment to Ukraine in the future cannot be ruled out.

Several NATO countries, responding to Macron's statement, publicly rejected the idea of sending troops to Ukraine, including Poland, the U.S., Germany, Czechia, Canada, and the UK.
