The French leader believes Putin’s Russia now poses an existential
threat to Europe.
“At our borders, there is an excessively armed and aggressive
Russia. It carries out terrorist actions and large-scale disinformation
campaigns here and across Europe,” Macron stated.
The French president reiterated that unless Putin is
stopped, Russia will “undoubtedly move into Moldova and possibly further into
Romania.”
On Feb. 24, Macron
visited the White House for talks with US President Donald Trump.
According to The Guardian, Macron sought to persuade Trump
to maintain “a certain level of military involvement” in Ukraine and across
Europe.
After the talks, Macron stated that a truce between Ukraine
and Russia could be reached “in the coming weeks.”
On Feb. 26, Politico, citing EU officials and diplomats,
reported that Macron held an urgent video conference with EU leaders to brief
them on his Washington visit.
The report noted that Trump gave Macron no clear assurances
regarding US security guarantees for Ukraine.
On Feb. 28, during a visit to Portugal, Macron urged European
nations to be “more united and stronger than ever” and to break free from their
“comfortable vassal dependence” on the United States.
