Shipments of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline, which has been shut since January, could resume as early as next week, incoming Hungarian PM Peter Magyar said on April 17, as reported by Bloomberg.

Magyar said the head of Hungary’s oil company MOL will travel to Russia next week for talks on restoring deliveries.

“It’s not enough just to restart Druzhba,” Magyar said. “It needs to get oil too.”

Hungary has also blocked a €90 billion EU loan announced in December 2025, as well as the adoption of the EU’s 20th sanctions package against Russia and the opening of negotiation clusters on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. In exchange for unfreezing financial aid, Hungary is demanding the restoration of the Druzhba pipeline’s operation.
