Social media reports said the blast likely occurred at the Ninth Central Automotive Repair Plant, located about 2 kilometers from the Kristal oil and fuel depot. Astra also noted that other sources indicated the explosion might have occurred at the RusCon-S facility, a plant that manufactures pipeline equipment, located roughly 5 kilometers from the same oil base.
Later, Ukrainian monitoring group Crimean Wind cited satellite images showing that a vehicle repair plant in Engels was on fire. The report stated that the facility works on classified state projects. Specifically, the plant is involved in designing and producing weapons and military equipment, manufacturing gear for Russia’s Defense Ministry, modernizing arms and military equipment, producing vehicle parts and components (including engines), and servicing and repairing a variety of vehicles.
On June 6, Ukraine attacked Kristal fuel depot in Engels with long-range strike drones, damaging several storage tanks at the site.
Satellite imagery later showed extensive damage to the depot, with at least five storage tanks destroyed or critically damaged.
