Temporary flight restrictions have been introduced at Moscow's Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Zhukovsky, and Domodedovo airports, Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) announced.
Drone attacks on the Moscow Oil Refinery
Moscow came under a large-scale attack by hundreds of drones on the morning of June 18. Explosions were heard, and footage of major fires surfaced online.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces later confirmed a repeat strike on Moscow’s largest oil refinery, located in the Kapotnya district, 15 kilometers from the Kremlin. Fires broke out in at least five places at the plant, and black smoke covered Moscow. Russian media wrote that it was the largest attack on the Russian capital since the start of the war.
Ukraine’s General Staff said the strike damaged a combined oil refining unit, three RVS-10000 tanks, and one RVS-30000 tank.
Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War said Ukrainian strikes on Moscow exposed weaknesses in Russian air defense. Russian military bloggers, they said, began openly criticizing censorship and the authorities’ inability to protect the population from the consequences of the war.
