Ukrainian forces have carried out the largest drone attack on the Russian city of Taganrog since the start of the war, Rostov Oblast Governor Yuri Slyusar claimed on March 30, commenting on a series of loud explosions overnight.

Russian air defenses allegedly “destroyed” more than 60 drones over Taganrog and six suburban districts.

At least three industrial facilities were damaged. One person was reportedly killed and eight others were injured.

A video posted by the Astra Telegram channel shows Russian air defense systems operating over a residential neighborhood in Taganrog. According to Petro Andriushchenko, head of the Ukrainian Center for the Study of the Occupation, an analysis of the video shows that an apartment building on Svoboda Street and nearby vehicles were damaged by an explosion from a Russian Pantsir air defense missile.

The area has been cordoned off, and tram service toward the nearby Beriev Aviation Plant has been suspended.

The likely target of the overnight drone attack was the Taganrog Aircraft Plant. The plant repairs and upgrades Soviet-made Tu-95MS strategic bombers and produces A-50 and A-100 early warning aircraft. It also manufactures Be-200 amphibious planes. It has also been linked to the production of Molniya-type drones.

Following Ukrainian strikes in 2025, the plant reported losses of around $65 million, compared to profits of approximately $15 million in 2024.
