The strikes were launched from Oryol and Kursk in Russia, as well as from the temporarily occupied cities of Donetsk and Hvardiyske, the Air Force said.
According to preliminary information, as of 8:30 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed 165 Russian Shahed, Gerbera, and other types of drones.
Enemy missile and drone strikes were recorded at 23 locations, with debris falling at four additional sites.
The attack was ongoing, with Russian drones still in Ukrainian airspace, the Air Force said.
The overnight Sept. 9 attack caused strikes in Kyiv's Darnytskyi and Holosiyivskyi districts, sparking fires at two trucks, a garage and a two-story non-residential building. Rescuers reported that all fires have been extinguished.
Overnight into Sept. 8, Russian forces attacked Kyiv with ballistic and cruise missiles, then continued the attack during the day using drones. Debris and fires were reported at 16 locations in the Solomyanskyi, Darnytskyi, Holosiyivskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Podilskyi districts. At least five people were killed and 29 were injured.
Russian forces also struck the building housing the We Are Ukraine television channel, where journalists were working at the time of the attack; at least six staff members were injured. According to General Producer Yuriy Suhak, the strike was aimed directly at the newsroom, and the channel's broadcasts were temporarily suspended.
