The Russian military bombed the field hospital area of the underground compound overnight, followed by naval artillery bombardment.
Some wounded Ukrainian soldiers were killed, while others were wounded and suffered concussions. Exact casualty figures are unclear.
The partially collapsed structure further hinders the already limited medical treatment available to the wounded, the message said.
Azov also shared a video, showing the aftermath of the field hospital’s collapse.
The Azovstal steelworks is the last Mariupol stronghold of Ukrainian forces, and is currently held by regiments of the National Guard, Marines, and the Azov Battalion itself.
Along with the service members, around 1,000-2,000 civilians are sheltering in the vast underground complex beneath the steel mill.
According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, it’s currently impossible to lift the siege of Mariupol by military means. All diplomatic efforts are concentrated on reaching an internationally-brokered solution to evacuate civilians and the remaining defenders to safety, the President has insisted.
