The patients and medical staff of the maternity hospital in Dnipro, which was hit by a Russian missile on Dec 29, were able to survive by going to the building’s shelter, according to the Governor of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Serhiy Lysak, on Telegram.

There were 12 women in labor and four newborns in the room.

As noted by Iryna Kulbach, the head of the obstetrics department, the windows and ceilings in the maternity hospital building were damaged. However, patients and medical staff of the hospital were not injured. “As soon as the alarm sounded, the doctors quickly moved everyone to the shelter as soon as the alarm sounded. That saved us," she said.

Kulbach added to the public that all pregnant patients are now at home.

"I am sure that the maternity hospital will be operational in the near future, and new Ukrainian men and women will be born there," said Kulbach.

The head of the obstetric department added that they are in contact with the evacuated mothers, and the newborns are in satisfactory condition.

The head of the Dnipropetrovsk OVA previously reported that at least five people were killed and dozens injured in the Dnipro due to a massive Russian missile attack. The aggressor also hit a shopping mall.
