All sides believe a deal is still possible. Mediators hope narrowing differences will allow another round of talks before the April 21 deadline on the current ceasefire.

Sources told Axios that President Donald Trump is considering renewing strikes if a U.S. blockade does not force Iran to change course.

“We are not in a complete deadlock. The door is not closed yet. Both sides are bargaining. It's a bazaar,” the report quoted one of its sources.

An unnamed U.S. official told Axios that a deal could be reached if Iran shows greater flexibility.

According to sources, the 21-hour talks between the United States and Iran in Pakistan revealed major disagreements over the nuclear issue, particularly the U.S. demand that Tehran stop enriching uranium and give up its stock of highly enriched uranium. Another sticking point, sources said, was the size of the frozen-asset pool Iran insists the U.S. must unlock in exchange for nuclear concessions.
