“As far as Putin at the G20 summit is concerned, I believe we should ask Putin to take a few steps toward us, rather than taking them ourselves,” Meloni said.
She added that Washington and Western partners have already taken some steps toward Moscow in recent months but have not seen a comparable response.
“We and the Americans, especially in recent months, have taken a few steps toward Russia, but we haven’t seen as many steps in return,” she said.
“I think now it is time to demand them from Russia.”
On April 23, Russia’s foreign ministry said Putin
received an invitation to the December summit. Russia’s G20 representative,
Svetlana Lukash, said the United States is preparing for a possible Putin visit.
