“If Italy wants to play a role, it is important that it maintain a clear position,” Meloni said at a press conference, referring to Italy’s support for Ukraine.
“And it has never wavered.”
Meloni also responded to questions about Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini’s meeting with the Russian ambassador in Milan, which drew criticism from the opposition.
According to Meloni, the meeting was initially planned as a gathering with companies operating in Russia, which she called “the most natural thing in the world,” since “there has never been a total ban on doing business in Russia.”
She added that she saw nothing unusual about the Russian
ambassador attending the meeting. Meloni described Russia’s continued
provocations and acts sabotage carried out in Europe as a sign of “a kind of
nervousness.”
