Microsoft
said on April 7 it had stopped attempts by Russian military hackers to break
into targets in Ukraine, the European Union, and the United States, Reuters
reports.
In a blog post, the tech giant claimed that a group of hackers it refers to as “Strontium” tried to attack government agencies and think tanks in the EU and the US. Ukrainian government agencies and media organizations were also among the targets.
“Strontium” is the monicker given by Microsoft to the hacker group Fancy Bear, which is linked to Russian military intelligence.
