Dodon's crony, Petru Marineanu, has also been detained while trying to destroy some of the evidence.
Prior to that, law enforcers conducted searches at Dodon's house in Chisinau, as well as other real estate owned by Dodon through intermediaries.
The raids were carried out as part of a criminal case of passive corruption, illicit enrichment, high treason and the financing of the Socialist Party by a criminal organization.
Earlier, on April 21, the deputy commander of Russia's Central Military District, Major General Rustam Minnekaev, said that control over the south of Ukraine would give Russia land access to unrecognized Transnistria, where "there are allegedly facts of oppression of the Russian-speaking population."
