Ukrainian air defenses shot down more than 82% of Russia's jet-powered drones during attacks on October 7, aviation expert and leading researcher at the State Aviation Museum Valerii Romanenko told Radio NV.

“Out of 130 drones, only 46 were jet-powered – about a third,” Romanenko said. “Jet-powered drones typically make up 40% to 50% of Russian attack waves. 45% was the standard. But on the night of October 7, that number dropped significantly.”

He noted that Ukraine already uses three types of interceptor drones to shoot down Russian jet-powered UAVs. These include the 600 km/h Alexa Spatium and a triangular jet drone that hits speeds of 700 km/h (which matches recent footage of the newly revealed Wild Hornets drone).

“Regarding jet drones: On October 7, we saw a record-breaking interception rate of 82.5% for the first time. Of the 46 jet drones launched, 38 were shot down, or 82.5%,” Romanenko stated. “We are gradually beginning to escape the trap the Russians have set for us. The percentage of drones shot down is steadily rising. In fact, more than four out of five drones are now being shot down.”

“I hope we are beginning to emerge from the critical situation where jet drones hit everything the Russians wanted to target,” the expert concluded.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched dozens of missiles and 130 Shahed drones – 46 of which were jet-powered – against Ukraine overnight on October 8. Air defense forces intercepted 161 targets, including 117 UAVs.
