Most of the wildfires in Chornobyl
Exclusion Zone have been contained, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural
Resources Ruslan Strilets said on Ukrainian television on March 24.
“Over the past two weeks, more than 30 fires have been contained,” Strilets said.
“In the last week, five more fires were recorded. Today, most of these fires have been contained. There are small areas where the burning continues.”
According to Strilets, weather conditions right now are not favorable for the spread of fires.
On March 21, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate announced that due to forest fires in and around the Chornobyl Zone, the level of radioactive air pollution had increased.
After that, Ukraine informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about forest fires near the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. The IAEA’s press service then reported this on Twitter.
