Russian forces carried out 229 attacks on facilities belonging to Ukraine’s state energy company Naftogaz in 2025 — more than in the previous three years combined, the company said on Feb. 17.

October 2025 was the most intense month, with 25 combined missile and drone attacks targeting the group’s infrastructure, Naftogaz said in a statement.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Naftogaz facilities have been attacked 401 times.

In total, more than 1,700 weapons — including missiles, drones and artillery — have been used against the group’s sites since 2022. Of those, 1,399 were launched in 2025 alone.

“2025 became unprecedented in terms of the scale of attacks on our infrastructure. The intensity of shelling exceeded that of previous years of the war,” Naftogaz CEO Serhii Koretskyi said. “Despite this, we continue supplying the country with gas and supporting the stability of the energy system.”

Koretskyi said the attacks directly reduced domestic gas production, forcing the company to import additional volumes to ensure a stable heating season.

On Feb. 9, Russia again attacked Naftogaz oil and gas facilities, damaging equipment. Koretskyi said it was the 20th strike on company assets since the start of the year.

On Feb. 8, Russian forces carried out another large-scale attack on Naftogaz facilities in Poltava Oblast.
