National Guardsman killed in Kyiv IED blast

A National Guard service member was killed on Dec. 11 in an explosion in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district as he patrolled a restricted site with a colleague, Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement via Telegram.

His squadmate was wounded in the initial blast, and a local civilian security guard also suffered injuries. While police and medics were working at the scene of the first explosion, a second device detonated, injuring two officers, the officials added. Both explosions were likely caused by improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The investigation classified the incident as an act of terror. The offense carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison or life in prison.
