Nauseda: Ratcliffe’s Moscow visit known in advance; results expected next week

Speaking at a join press conference with European Council President António Costa, Nauseda said he expects information about the meeting’s results to be released next week.

Journalists asked whether Nauseda had known about Ratcliffe’s trip to Russia in advance, why the U.S. aircraft had flown from Riga, and whether he knew the outcome of the meeting in Moscow.

“As for the meeting — yes, we knew about it; I don’t want to discuss its content because, first and foremost, it was a meeting between the two countries [the United States and Russia], and its contents are for them to discuss,” the president said.

He added that the meeting may have focused on “reducing geopolitical tensions.” However, he suggested that information about Ratcliffe’s trip, its purpose and its content would be released next week.

Journalists also asked Costa about the matter, but he declined to comment.

CBS News reported on Aug. 25 that Ratcliffe had arrived in Moscow aboard a C-17 military transport aircraft. According to flight-tracking service Flightradar24, the aircraft arrived in Riga, Latvia, from the Camp Springs U.S. military base on Aug. 23. It landed Aug. 25 at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport.
