Poland will send additional troops to its border with Belarus as the situation there remains tense, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said on Aug. 8, according to Wprost.

"Due to the dynamic situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, and at the request of the Commander of the Border Guard to increase involvement in border protection, more troops will be transferred to the border," the minister said in a statement.

Up to 2,000 Polish military personnel are currently stationed along the Polish-Belarusian border.

Meanwhile, Russia and Belarus are currently engineering another migrant influx into the EU through the Polish border, Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Wąsik said on Aug. 6.

Wagner Group mercenaries have also moved to Belarus following the unsuccessful coup by their leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, which also raises tension between the two countries.

Belarus’ self-proclaimed president Alexander Lukashenko complained that Wagnerites were causing him stress due to their determination to attack Poland. He later claimed he was joking.
